Trees and E-Waste collected during the 2006 Chipper
Keep Troup Beautiful has joined with corporate sponsors The Home Depot, WXIA-TV
(Atlanta’s NBC affiliate), the Davey Tree & Lawn Experts and the Georgia
Department of Community Affairs as part of a statewide effort to recycle
Christmas trees in Troup County during the 2006 Bring One for the Chipper. This
year also marks the kickoff of the LaGrange/Troup County Recycling Center’s
e-waste recycling campaign.
Electronic waste (e-waste) has become an issue due to the quick pace
consumers buy and discard electronics that often contain toxic substances such
as lead and mercury. Cathode-ray tubes and liquid crystal displays found in many
computer monitors and laptops are “hazardous waste”. The LaGrange/Troup County
Recycling Center has decided to include electronics as part of the recycling
stream collected in Troup County. Televisions, computers, monitors, cell phones
are some of the items that will be recycled. For more information, contact Joe
Adams at 883-7547.
This year both trees and electronic gadgets will be collected during the 2006
Bring One for the Chipper. The Chipper will be Saturday, January 7th from 9am to
1pm at The Home Depot on Lafayette Parkway, LaGrange. Each person who brings a
tree or an electronic device will receive a free sapling while supplies last.
All participants will also be eligible for a $25.00 gift certificate from the
Home Depot (3 will be awarded). The drawing will be held January 7th, 2006.
Between December 26th and January 6th, a designated area will be marked in
the parking lot of the Home Depot for early disposal of Christmas trees. Early
participants can still get an entry form for the drawing at the LaGrange/Troup
County Recycling Center at 550 N. Davis Road (across the road from the Home
Depot) starting December 27 between 8am and 3pm. Saplings are only available on
the 7th.
Bring One for the Chipper is one of many programs sponsored by Keep Troup
Beautiful.
