The
Keep Troup Beautiful Board of Directors finished their annual membership drive
with a drawing for a 35-inch color television donated by the LaGrange Wal-Mart
Distribution Center. The drawing was held a at the monthly KTB board meeting on
Wednesday, February 8th. Julie Harrell of LaGrange was the lucky winner.
22,000 entries were mailed in the monthly utility bills of both the City of
LaGrange and Diverse Power. KTB membership was suggested but not required to
win. “Julie Harrell was very excited,” said KTB Executive Director, Doris
Jefferson. “I can’t believe it, I’ve never won anything in my life,” said Ms.
Harrell. She said her husband and grandchildren would love the new TV.
Keep Troup Beautiful conducts an annual membership drive to raise funds for
promotional materials to encourage participation in several educational
activities such as the Bring One for the Chipper, the J.R. Lewis award for
schools, the Award of Excellence and the Great American Cleanup. These
anti-litter campaigns and recycling programs raise awareness on the importance
of individual responsibility and community pride.
Look for postcards from KTB promoting the annual “Award of Excellence
Program” in late February. Up to 18 awards will be awarded to several groups in
different categories. Nominate a fellow neighbor, company or school for programs
initiated in 2005 that encouraged community improvement, litter prevention or
recycling. Applications will be available online or by
calling 706.884.9922. The deadline is March 24, 2006.
