Great American Cleanup - Troup News 250 Volunteers
have registered with Keep Troup Beautiful for the 2006 Great American Cleanup
set for Saturday, April 22nd. Churches, Businesses and civic groups have formed
groups to beautify several different areas in Troup County.
New Community Church has 25 members participating in a church “Spring Clean”
on April 8th. The Troup County High School Horticultural Group, lead by Luann
Jones, is planning to plant plants grown at the school around entrances to West
Point Lake. David Whitley at Interface has formed groups in both West Point and
LaGrange to pick up litter. 20 people with AmeriCorps have registered to
beautify the Whitesville Road area and teachers, parents and children from
Hogansville Elementary School plan to clean Main Street from I-85 to the school.
“You can still be a part of this years’ Great American Cleanup”, says GAC
Chair Joe Adams. Volunteers can participate before or on April 22nd. Form a
group, do your project and register by phone 706.884.9922 or at 9:00am at the
Chamber of Commerce Plaza in LaGrange or Calvin Hipp Veterans Memorial Park on
Main Street in Hogansville on April 22nd. Everyone is invited back between
11:30am and 12noon at each location for refreshments and door prizes. “This year
the door prizes include a Black and White TV, a DVD player and a new $700 Troy-Bilt
limb and leaf mulcher donated by Keep Troup Beautiful’s national sponsor Troy-Bilt”,
said Executive Director Doris Jefferson. “It’s a great tool for cleaning your
property,” added Joe Adams. Cash prizes will be awarded in both locations for
the most litter collected by groups 5 and more ($50), groups with 4 and under
($25) and the most unusual item found ($25).
Each participant will receive a free meal deal coupon donated by Burger King
and a free T-shirt donated by Wal-mart, Interface, Coca-cola, LaGrange Grocery
Co., Matthew G. Orr Insurance Agency, Inc., Hunter-Allen-Myhand Funeral Home and
Sleepy Holler Gifts while supplies last. The 2006 Great American Cleanup
national sponsors are Pepsi, Wrigley, Honda, Glad ForceFlex, Waste Management,
Scotts Miracle-Gro Co., Georgia Pacific Sparkle, Firestone, Sam’s Club and Troy-Bilt.
